Social Justice Calls a Conference in Montreal

1 Sep

This month will see something exciting happening in Montreal (an event I will have to miss, desgraciadamente, since I will be in Brazil) and that is a huge meeting of the members of CIVICUS: the World Alliance for Citizen Participation. The goal of CIVICUS is nothing less than the expansion of civil society involvement in national decision making around the globe – particularly in places where that has been lacking. The organization has members in more than 100 countries.

The event’s theme this year is ‘Acting Together for a Just World.’ There are way too many meetings, workshops and members for me to describe in this post, so check out their website.

Meanwhile, I have another post up on their fantastic CitizenShift/ParoleCitoyenne blog, which readers can reach by clicking on this link: http://citizenshift.org/blogs/civicus/2011/08/30/forest-dwellers-can-lead-with-environmental-solutions.

If you’re in Montreal the weekend of the 10th to the 12th, check out this interesting phenomenon: a multi-national gathering of people fighting for a better world.
